Hy’s SteakHouse

Steak, who doesn’t like eating it? Aside from vegetarians that is. A couple of years ago, I was looking up fancy restaurants to take my family for Christmas. I came across Hy’s Steakhouse and after checking the menu and reviews, I settled on that place. My family loved their meal there, so I decided to take J there for our 2 years this year.

The restaurant is set in the heart of the finance district downtown, and was undergoing store-front renovation when we got there. Walking through the doors, you’ll feel like you went through a time-warp and somehow ended up in the 1960’s. The restaurant felt like it was frozen in time, with a grand interior adorned with dark oil paintings and waiters with solemn faces in pressed vests and jackets.

The iPad that our waiter produced for us to choose our wine from was the most random thing. Talk about out of place in that environment! We settled for a bottle of Merlot Beringer and I chose a Steak Neptune for myself.

The Steak Neptune comes with your choice of New York or Filet Mignon, topped with fresh asparagus and Dungeness crabmeat, finished with hollandaise sauce.
I opt’ed for the filet mignon with mash potatoes and it was delicious. I’d like to think I have a standard for the steak I consume since I eat quite a fair bit of them, so I know what I am talking about, hah. The steak was tender and seasoned to perfection.

Belgian Chocolate Bourbon Cake.

To end that evening on a high note, we got a Belgian Chocolate Bourbon Cake. There’s something delightful about combining a warm chocolate cake with some creamy vanilla ice-cream. It’s the perfect combination of slight bitter with sweet.
